The University of Tampa, or UT for short, is a private, co-educational university in Tampa, which is the county seat for Hillsborough County and a Gulf Coast Bay city in the U.S. state of Florida, with a population estimated at a number of more than 340 000 inhabitants, during the 2009 census. According to Forbes magazine, Tampa is the 5th best outdoor city, and according to Loughborough University, it is a ''high sufficiency'' world city and it is one category away from becoming a Gamma world city.
UT was established in 1931 and since then, it has continuously grown in both size and prestige, being known today for many of its educational programs offered, including for its John H. Sykes College of Business, which is one of the 45 schools that The Princeton Review has added to its annual best business schools guide in 2007.
The university offers its students, which number approximately 6000, over 100 undergraduate degree options, along with master's degree programs in accounting, business administration, education, finance, marketing, nursing and innovation management. UT also has an Honors Program, which ''allows students to go beyond the classroom and regular course work to study one-on-one with faculty through enrichment tutorials, Honors Abroad, internships, research and classroom-to-community outreach'', and it also offers a host of international study-abroad options led by UT professors.
The athletic teams from the University of Tampa are known as the Spartans, who compete in NCAA Division II, in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), in various sports, for men and women, including in men's soccer, in which they won 3 NCAA-II titles, in '81, '94 and 2001, women's soccer, in which they won the NCAA-II title in 2007, baseball, in which they won 5 NCAA-II titles, between '92 and 2007, golf, in which they won 2 titles, in '87 and '88, and volleyball, in which they won the 2006 NCAA-II championsip.
